Baby Hiccups

As baby is learning to swallow, I been experiencing hiccups this week. At first I cannot really tell whether is baby kicks or hiccups but I guess I start to know now. Hiccups is like a heartbeat, is more constant and it can last for about 5-10mins.

Still waiting for more surprises from this little fellow!!

Playpen Vs Cot

I'm still thinking which one to get for Jkt house! Both have their own pros and cons. And the cot in jkt is selling very expensive. So far mostly are around $1k. If in the end we really decide to get cot, i will get 1 here and bring it over. keekee

What is the difference between a cot and a playpen?

A cot is essentially a bed for your baby. It usually is made of wood, with one or two side drops, and the mattress is roughly at your hip/waist level. Most cot allows you to lower the mattress level for older babies. ( 1. When baby start to learn to stand, they will fall and hit the wood. 2. Small spaces for baby to roll around when they get longer)
A playpen, on the other hand, is usually not made of wood but nylon/plastic, with netting kind of fabric all round. The purpose of using these material is precisely for the baby to play in it and knock around without injuring himself. The base of the playpen is always at floor level.

Nowadays, a lot of playpens can be double up as a cot. The base can be elevated to close to the edge of the playpen. I guess this appeals to parents who wants to save the money by buying a two-in-one.

However, there are several disadvantages of buying a two-in-one playpen and use it as a cot:

1. The base is too low

Just imagine picking up an infant from floor level, over the high edge of the playpen. Enough said. You will be complaining about backaches in no time. Even those with elevated base is lower than the mattress level of a baby cot. Incidentally, if the maximum height of the mattress level of the baby cot is not at your hip/waist level, don't buy it! You will get the same problem as using a playpen. (A shortie all my life, now I'm worried I cant reach the baby!)

2. The maximum height of the base too close to edge

When elevated, the bases of most 2-in-1 playpens are too close to the edge of the playpen, making it dangerous for older babies (who can pull themselves up) to sleep in them. This means that you will have to lower the base very soon and then you will have that back breaking problem.

3. Too many functions serve no function?

Imagine a playpen full of toys. It's also where your baby sleeps, which means you have to remove all the unnecessary things first. Personally, I prefer to keep the boundaries clear - play area is not sleep area.

Or last choice, should we just let the baby to sleep on the mattress on the floor?

Yesterday, my MIL, 3rd sis and family brought 2 yummy food to our house.

P/S: True, I'm experiencing alot of Baby R martial arts now. But till now, i'm enjoying it! =p

Shopping for Baby R ~ 1

Today is the 1st day for Isetan Baby Fair. Since my er jie is on MC, I decided to sneak out to Isetan Scott to get some things for Baby R with her. And the best thing is a good chance to use some of my Isetan Vouchers that will be expiring by end of Nov. Initially I do not want to start to buy things so early. But from the forum, I realised I'm so much behind all the other mother to be that are giving birth in Dec or even in Jan. They started to buy so many things and make me think that I'm so slow! But then again, I won't rush too, I will just slowly buy the necessary things whenever I can see any cheap buy bah!

Overall, I feel the fair is quite disappointing. I did not mange to get the thing I want like carrier, milk bottles and etc. In the end I just anyhow buy. =P

1. Pigeon Steam Sterilizer (Recommended by Er jie as this can put different brands of milk bottles and even water bottles)
   A bundle offer which comes with a babyfood warmer, 2 wide neck bottles and wet wipes)
2. NUK Pacifier (Best brand to buy as it got the shape of nipple)
3. Nail Clipper for new born
4. Washing brush for milk bottle
5. Breast Pad (To motivate myself to be positive in Breastfeeding)
6. Nipple cream

And I got a free gift pack with quite alot of things like milk bottles, CD game, toys and etc. Not too bad.

I guess my best buy for today is this Bumper Chair. It cost more than half the price of the usual price. And the most important thing, I got the color I want! All thanks to the sales Auntie. keekee

Since this entry is about Baby R things, so i decided to put in the first few presents that Ros yiyi had already buy.

** 2 sweet pink dress, Bibs, Nappy Rash cream and Cooler Bag **

And guess what, I saw this cooler bag in the fair today and it cost about $40+ and US is so much cheaper.

End of day conclusion, Baby's stuffs are so Expensive. A simple thing like a nail clipper can cost more than $10 bucks!! I think if got chance I must really go to child department and get use to their prices!

Half Way There!

Yeah finally mark our half journey in expecting a new family member in our family. Although there are some scarly hipcups initially, hope that everything will be smooth from today onwards!

Just came back from my gynae appointment, Baby R has grown from 190g (2 wks ago) to 338. Dr Lee manage to snap her mouth open and close for her daddy to see. When I look at the screen, i was thinking, the nose seem big huh? Oh no, is she going to be like her daddy & mummy?
